RIKEN BRC

Technology and development unit for knowledge base of mouse phenotype

Japanese
Introduction

Mouse is one of the excellent model organisms for the study of human biology and diseases. As a model animal, it has long history of study, and there exist various tools for the experimental manipulation of its genome. These advantages make mouse mutant resources increasing continuously. For today's biomedical researches, it is essential to select most appropriate model mice as experimental materials according to their research scope from vast and various flood of biological information.
To accelerate utilities of mouse mutant resources, representing phenotypic information in a standardized manner presents new challenges for resource centers. We aim for international contribution in the field of the integration of mouse phenotype information by designation of the standard information technology. We will develop a new searching system that enables systematic retrieval of phenotype information with the international standardized evaluation capturing mouse resources in RIKEN BRC, which make up 15% of world total. These activities may greatly contribute the development of the knowledge infrastructures in life science.

Development of Technology

  • Development and Standardization of structured vocabularies for mouse phenotyping analyses.
  • Annotation and integration of mouse phenotype data in RIKEN BRC with standardized vocabularies and public information.
  • Development of new searching system utilizes information elucidated from relationships of mouse phenotypes and human diseases.
