RIKEN BRC Report of International Collaboration with
Research Institutes in Taiwan
National Laboratory Animal Center (NLAC)
Institute of Biopharmaceutical Science, National Yang Ming University
RIKEN BRC staff, Dr. Yoshiki (head of Animal Experimental Division), Dr. Ogura (head of Bioresource Engineering Division) and Dr. Katagiri (Planning Section of Research Promotion Division), visited National Laboratory Animal Center (NLAC) in Taiwan from Dec 2nd to 6th 2007. We had facility tours at NLAC in Taipei and at NLAC Southern Branch in Tainan that will be ready in Apr 2008 for formal operation, and discussed the future relationship between RIKEN BRC and NLAC.
On Dec 6th, Drs. Yoshiki and Ogura presented the highest quality mouse resources and advanced assisted reproductive technologies of RIKEN BRC for the symposium in the 2007 annual meeting of Chinese-Taipei Society of Laboratory Animal Sciences that was held at Academia Sinica in Taipei.
This international collaboration was based on the MoU that had been signed on Aug 1st 2005 between RIKEN BRC and National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL), the superior organization of NLAC. Three skilled trainees from NLAC participated in the training courses of RIKEN BRC for one month in July 2006. During our stay in Taiwan, we contacted the trainees and found that they contributed to set up the facility of the NLAC Southern Branch.
We also visited Prof. Rong-Tsun Wu, Institute of Biopharmaceutical Science, National Yang Ming University in Taipei on Dec 6th, gave lectures in the seminar of the graduate course and exchanged opinions for future plans.
