Introduction The RIKEN BRC is a not-for-profit institution and totally supported by the fund from Japanese Government. The RIKEN BRC has been providing biological resources not only to scientists in Japan but also to those in overseas with minimum fee just to reimburse shipping and handling costs. We think our activity forms essential infrastructure for sustainable development of life sciences. To be able to continue the service to international scientific community, the RIKEN BRC has to be prepared for futile and unforeseeable lawsuits against the RIKEN BRC by depositors, recipients or third parties, especially in the case of cross border transfer.
