1. How to Order

2. Material Transfer Agreement (MTA)

Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) must be fully executed prior to shipping any order. MTA defines rights and duties for the both provider and recipient. The terms and conditions, specified by the depositors, should be respected. Some of the depositors require their approvals with a written consent.

Our MTAs fall into two categories: Category I and Category II. Visit following page and select the appropriate Category that fits with your organization and research purpose. The MTA form of Category II is available for limited resources on the web, but provided upon your request. Please be noted that MTAs may be changed due to the government policy.

4. Shipping

    (1) Seed Stocks
Surface sterilized seeds are contained in a sealed plastic tube. The tube is wrapped with a sealed plastic bag and finally put in a small package lined with cushioning material. Seeds are shipped by means of registered airmail through Japan Post.
Please note that the tagged line seeds are usually progenies of heterozygous plants unless specified in the catalogue.
    (2) DNA Clones
Individual cDNA materials are shipped as lyophilized plasmid (ca. 100ng) in a sealed plastic tube. The tube is wrapped with a sealed plastic bag and finally put in a small package lined with cushioning material. Seeds are shipped by means of registered airmail through Japan Post.
    (3) Plant Cell Cultures
Plant cell cultures are shipped by international carriers at the receiver’s expense.
    Note

It is recipient’s responsibility to clear customs. Some countries require a Phytosanitary Certificate issued through Japanese Plant Control Protection or your Government Permit to import seed materials. RIKEN BRC cannot guarantee any loss or damage which may arise at customs clearance. Please feel free to contact us at the email address if there is any permit or documents which should be enclosed in or attached on the package, prior to shipping your order.
Other documents, such as a plant product description, will be made through negotiations as they sometimes differ on each occasion.
When you receive the package, please carefully check what you receive and email us your receipt. If there is any problem found in the materials, please inform us immediately.

5. Quality Control
We distribute (1) Individual Arabidopsis seeds, (2) Arabidopsis seed pool sets, (3) cDNA/EST clones, (4) Plant cultured cells and (5) Brachypodium distachyon seeds. Each product is tested in order to ensure the reproducibility of experimental results.

(1) Individual Arabidopsis seeds

Seeds are sealed in plastic tubes and shipped by registered airmail.
Information on genotype and phenotype data provided by the depositor/developer is shown in the web catalog.

Quality Test in RIKEN BRC:

  • Germination ratio of seeds (if more than 3 years has passed since last examination)
  • Confirmation of insertion site (transposon-tagged line) or DNA sequence of genes (over-expresser/anti-sense mutant)
  • Genotyping with SSR marker (when new lot of natural accession is generated)

Not Performed:

  • Full length nucleotide sequencing of insert DNA in transgenic lines

(2) Arabidopsis seed pool sets

Pooled seeds are sealed in plastic tubes and shipped by registered airmail.

Quality Test in RIKEN BRC:

  • Germination ratio of seeds (if more than 3 years has passed since last examination)

Not Performed:

  • Analysis of insertion site and sequence of transgenic lines

(3) cDNA/EST clones

DNA materials are sealed in plastic tubes and shipped by registered airmail.
Information on nucleotide sequence and other properties obtained by the depositor/developer is shown in the web catalog.

Quality Test in RIKEN BRC:

  • Sequencing of 5′- and/or 3′-end of insert DNA

Not Performed:

  • Full length nucleotide sequencing of insert DNA

(4) Plant cultured cells

Plant cultured cells are shipped in plastic containers by a worldwide carrier.
Information on maintenance procedure, insert DNA (if any) and other properties provided by the depositor/developer is shown in the web catalog.

Quality Test in RIKEN BRC:

  • Genotyping of cells to confirm their origin species (once every year)
  • Analysis of insert DNA (if any, once every year)

Not Performed:

  • Characterization of biosynthetic ability of target materials (if any)

(5) Brachypodium distachyon seeds

Seeds of Brachypodium distachyon are sealed in plastic tubes and shipped by registered airmail.

Quality Test in RIKEN BRC:

  • Germination ratio of seeds (if more than 3 years has passed since last examination)

Not Performed:

  • Genotyping of seeds
